LAFAYETTE — The Chambers Academy Lady Rebels’ season came to an end last week after losing two games in the state tournament. The Lady Rebels entered as a number three seed in the eight team tournament. First, the Lady Rebels faced Bessemer. Bessemer scored in the bottom of the first on a sacrifice bunt to take an 0-1 lead. Chambers gave up another run to start the bottom of the third inning, but with two more runners in the scoring position, the Lady Rebels got out of the inning, trailing just 0-2.
The Lady Rebels finally found their offensive in the top of the fourth as Allie Paschal, Gabby Coleman and Blakely Allen all singled to drive in two runs and tie up the game. Bessemer took a 2-3 lead in the bottom of the fifth, but doubles by Abigail Downey and Paschal gave Chambers a 4-3 advantage. A double play by Coleman in the bottom of the sixth allowed the Lady Rebels to hold their one point lead going into the final inning.
With one out, Chambers allowed Bessemer to tie it up with two big hits. Then, an error in the field on a bunt gave Bessemer the walk-off, 4-5 win.
In the elimination game, Chambers and Morgan Academy stayed tied at 1-1 through five innings. Morgan added runs in the fifth and seventh, and the Lady Rebels were unable to cross the plate despite getting hits. The Lady Rebels ended their season with a 22-13 record.
