LEE COUNTY — The Loachapoka High School girls and boys basketball teams both defeated Beauregard High School on Dec. 6, with the Lady Indians besting the Lady Hornets 37-30 and the Indians topping the Hornets 49-43.
With the victory, the LHS girls record strengthens to 5-3 while the BHS girls fall to 1-3. The LHS boys record improves to 2-3, and the BHS boys remain winless at 0-3.
In her first season as Loachapoka head coach after coaching at BHS for five years — two as an assistant and three as head coach — Sabrina Milligan said, “It’s good to come out on top against Beauregard. It’s huge. We’re young. I don’t have any seniors. I even had an eighth grader out there on the court tonight. Being in these close games is only going to help us in the long run and will give us that in-game experience we need to help us make it to the postseason.”
LHS #1 finished with a game-high 14 points for the Lady Indians, while LHS #15 ended with 10 points. BHS #24 led the Lady Hornets with 12 points, and BHS #23 contributed 7 points.
In the boys game, LHS head basketball coach Sheroderick Smith noted one performance in particular following what he characterized as an “ugly” win.
“I think Jamauri Todd started attacking the basket more than he has all season. That was a real key,” Smith said. “We did get some good post feeds, but as far as keeping the lead and everything, he kind of started it.”
Todd finished the game with nine points, tied with Zay Shaw for the second-most points for the Indians. Mitchell Chenier led the scoring for LHS with 14 points.
For the Hornets, Ballew scored a game-high 15 points while Jadavious Wilson chipped in eight points.
