Beauregard High School Athletic Director and head football coach Rob Carter has reportedly been hired to be the head football coach at Sylacauga High School, according to the Observer sports writer D. Mark Mitchell.

Carter leaves Beauregard after seven seasons (2014-2020), posting a 51-27 overall record. He finishes 29-13 in Region games and 9-3 in the playoffs.

The pinnacle of Carter’s time with Beauregard was undoubtedly the 2016 season in which his Hornets achieved the program’s first ever 13-win season on their way to winning the AHSAA 5A State Championship.

Since then, the program has been in steady decline, losing in the third round of the playoffs in 2017, the second round in 2018 and missing the playoffs each of the past two years. This year, the Hornets finished 4-6, having been outscored 155-300 while going 2-4 in the area.

Carter replaces former coach Andrew Zow, who resigned in January after one season (7-5) at the helm for the Aggies.

The Observer reached out to Beauregard High School for more information but could not reach principal Brown for a quote.

This is a developing story.
