Opelika Observer

On March 4, 110 swimmers from around the state competed in the Special Olympics Alabama Opelika sectional swim meet hosted by the Opelika Parks and Recreation Department. Teams from Baldwin, Coffee/Dale, Houston, Montgomery, Shelby, Talladega, Walker and, of course, Lee County descended on Opelika SportsPlex and Aquatics Center, the home of the Lee County Special Olympics swim team, the Tidal Waves.
The Tidal Waves made a great showing, gathering up 26 first place, 18 second place, four third place, and one fifth place ribbon.  Team members are Justin Floyd, Dewey Mullins, Wiley Crowell, Bo Dunn, Phillip Jost, Ben Crowell, Jimmy Rogers, Terry Wilson, Richard Haynes, Robert Tucker, Dylan Johnson, Ava Lawrence, Sam Allison, Trey Conner, Drew Burque, Margaret Burrus, Chad Sanders, Camron McNeil, Charissa Merritt, Donnie Lee, Maggie Foster, Jarrett Clark, Gabi Fellows, Cari Autrey, Dorsey Barron, Hailey Spratlin, Wyatt Jinright, Vicente Ortiz, David Posey, John Waldrip, and Eric Cha. The team is coached by John Huling and Beth Parmer.
