The East Alabama Predators, a Gridiron Developmental Football League semi-professional football program founded last year in Opelika, will hold open tryouts for their 2015 season Nov. 15 at 9 a.m. Tryouts will be held at Moore Stadium, located on 7th Ave.
Registration will begin at 8 a.m., and players will be assessed a nonrefundable fee of $20. Appropriate football cleats should be worn during tryouts, and participants are asked to wear black shorts with a white or black top.
The 2014 football season treated the new team well: the Predators fought their way to the playoffs during their inaugural season and stayed undefeated until falling to the Florida Falcons in the third round.
Predator owner Michael Martin said making it that far in the competition was not what he expected for their first year.
A couple of coaching changes have taken place since the end of last season. Predator head coach Hunter Price decided to step down after last year. Martin said the team appreciates the passion and hard work Price brought to the field.
Harry Mose, former Predators assistant coach and running back at Auburn University, was selected to fill the head coaching position. The Predators also brought on Carlos Moore, former Predator running back, to fill the vacant coaching position left by Mose.
Martin said he thinks the team with adjust well to the change in staff.
Martin said he has high hopes for 2015. He looks for the team to make it to the playoffs again and hopefully bring home a championship trophy.
Any interested parties are encouraged to come and try out. The Predators coaches are looking for all-around athletes and have a special need for offensive linemen to round out their roster.
