Mrs. Evelyn Galloway
Funeral services for Mrs. Evelyn Powell Galloway, 97, of Opelika, were Nov. 17 at 11 a.m. in the chapel at Jeffcoat-Trant Funeral Home. Reverends Billy Harris and Mike King officiated. The family received friends one hour prior to the service. Burial followed at Rosemere Cemetery.
Mrs. Galloway was born in Kent, Ala. on June 16, 1917. She had been a resident of Opelika for 57 years. She retired from Gayfer’s Department Store after 18 years of service. She was a member of the First Baptist Church of Opelika, and the Eunice Sunday School Class. She was also a member of the Tulip Garden Club, and the Museum of East Alabama.
Mrs. Galloway was preceded in death by her husband of 28 years, William Wilson Galloway. She is survived by her daughter, Carol Powell Murphey (Larry), of Opelika; two grandchildren, Larry Scott Murphey of Birmingham, and Melanie Murphey Fuller (Wade) of Montgomery; seven great grandchildren, Austin Murphey, Jessica Murphey, Sawyer Murphey, Zach Fuller, Charlie Fuller, Colton Fuller and Kyle Fuller.
Family respectfully requests that in lieu of flowers that any memorial be sent to the Oncology Dept. of EAMC, First Baptist Church of Opelika Building Program or your favorite charity.

Jewel Capps Whatley
Jewel Capps Whatley passed away Nov. 14 at age 102. She was born June 14, 1912 in Russell County, Ala. to parents John Clinton Capps and Mary Elizabeth Dudley.
She was preceded in death by her husband of 59 years, Wilmer L. Whatley; daughter, Gayle Whatley Lurie and brother, Ralph W. Capps.
Surviving are daughter, Carol Whatley Spinks (Harry); grandchildren, Wayne Spinks (Debra), Richard Spinks (Susan), Pam Degnan (Sonny); and three great grandsons.
The funeral service was held Nov. 19 at 11 a.m. at Jeffcoat-Trant Chapel followed by a private graveside. Reverend Earl Ballard officiated. Visitation was at 10 a.m., one hour prior to the service at Jeffcoat-Trant Funeral Home.
