Walter James Boucher

Walter James Boucher, 83, passed away Jan. 7, 2015, at East  Alabama Medical Center.
Visitation was held Jan. 8 from 5-7 p.m. at Jeffcoat-Trant Funeral Home. Funeral services were Friday, Jan. 9 at 11 a.m. at Jeffcoat-Trant Chapel. The Rev. Randal Woodham officiated.
Mr. Boucher was born on Oct. 21, 1931, in Muskegon, Mich. He joined the Air Force in 1948 and served in Okinawa and Japan during the Korean Conflict.  After leaving the service he attended Auburn University, graduating with a degree in accounting in 1960. He joined the firm of W.W. Cauley and Associates, now Brantley, Boucher, & Farr LLP, certified public accountants, in 1959, where he worked with many individuals and local businesses during the last 55 years. He was a member of First United Methodist Church.
Mr. Boucher is survived by his loving wife of 62 years, Betty Kilpatrick Boucher; two children, Steve (Lynne) Boucher  – Opelika and Debbie (Jim) Freind – Auburn; four grandchildren, Brad (Amra) Boucher and Stephanie (Doug) Eckhardt, all of Atlanta, Ga., and Amanda (Justin) Nims – Auburn and Kimberly Freind and fiancé, Jimmy Dunn – Atlanta, Ga.;  two great-grandchildren, Addison Faith Boucher and Walter Coleman Nims; and a wealth of extended family and friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Joseph and Libby Boucher, and by his five older sisters, Lois, Virginia, Alma, Alice and Doris.
In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorials may be made to the Opelika First United Methodist Church Building Fund.

Peggy Bibby Hurst

The funeral services for Peggy Bibby Hurst of Opelika were held at 2:30 pm, Sunday, Jan. 11, 2015, at Frederick-Dean Funeral Home Chapel. Visitation was held prior to the service from 1-2:15 p.m. at Frederick-Dean.
Peggy was born in LaFayette, Ala., on April 25, 1937, and passed away at East Alabama Medical Center on Jan. 9, 2015.  She was preceded in death by her husband of 58 years, James Robert Hurst, and her son-in-law, Hans W. Thiele.
She is survived by her son, James B. Hurst (Corinne) of Opelika, and her daughter, Susan H. Thiele of Alpharetta, Ga.; two grandchildren, James B. Hurst Jr., of New York, and Ashley H. Underwood (Phil) of Opelika; and two great-grandchildren, Phillip Michael Underwood III, and Turner Hurst Underwood, of Opelika.
Peggy was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother and had a passion for loving and caring for others. She enjoyed serving others by welcoming them into her home with a Southern home-cooked meal. She provided a listening ear to many that she knew and always had a bright smile on her face.
She had an enormous heart for children, and her family was her life.

John Arthur Curry Jr.

Funeral service for John Arthur Curry Jr., 95, of Auburn, was held at 2 p.m. Monday, Jan. 12, 2015, at Auburn First Presbyterian Church. The Rev. Nicholas Reed officiated. Burial was held in Auburn Memorial Park Cemetery. Visitation was Monday from 1-2 p.m. in the church sanctuary prior to the service.
Mr. Curry was born Dec. 3, 1919, in Selma. He passed away Thursday, Jan. 8, 2015, at Bethany House in Auburn. He graduated from Alabama Polytechnic Institute (Auburn University).
Mr. Curry loved his family, was a member of First Presbyterian Church and was a WWII veteran. He returned to Auburn after WWII and became a businessman and realtor. He loved the town of Auburn and its people and was loyal to Auburn University.
He was preceded in death by his father, John Arthur Hood Curry; mother, Stella Mae Jackson Curry; and first wife, Helen Minerva Robinson Curry.
Survivors include his wife of 61 years, Sara Ann McCall Lee Curry; four children, Stella Curry (Russell) Ivie, Mary McCall Lee, Edwin C. (Marianne) Lee, Martha Curry Reese; seven grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren.
The family respectfully declines the gift of flowers and suggests memorial contributions to the East Alabama Food Bank or Auburn First Presbyterian Church.

Paul Knight

Paul Knight, 83, of Opelika passed away at his home on Saturday, Jan. 10, 2015. He was born in Frametown, W.Va.
He joined the Navy in 1952, which took him to Jacksonville, Fla., where he lived for many years. After leaving the Navy he worked in Trucking and Transportation, which led to his move to Opelika in 1974 when he accepted a trucking position with Gordon Transport.
However, many in Auburn remember him most fondly from his days at “Paul’s Furniture,” which was a second-hand furniture store he owned during the 1980s located at that time in the small retail center next door to where Amsterdam is now located. He loved to dabble in the buying and selling of secondhand furniture because he loved the interaction it gave him with his customers.
He was very humble and had a great love for the Lord. He will be greatly missed.
He was preceded in death by his mother, Mabel Blanche Six, and father, George Washington Knight. Survivors include his son, Shey Knight (Terri) of Opelika, son Keith Knight of Pennsylvania,  grandson Corey Knight of Atlanta, Ga., granddaughter Morgan Knight of Opelika, brother Barrett Knight of Baltimore, Md., brother David Knight of Baltimore, Md., sister Ruth Burrows of Gallatin, Mo., and sister Dolly Stevens of W.Va.
Visitation was held Monday, Jan. 12, 2015, from 6-8 p.m. at Jeffcoat-Trant Funeral Home.  Graveside service was held at 11:30 a.m. Tuesday, Jan. 13, 2015, at Ft. Mitchell National Cemetery with the Rev. Carlton Messer officiating.

Cecil L. Langston

Funeral service for Cecil L. Langston, 79, of Opelika was held at 2 p.m. Wednesday, Jan. 14, 2015, at Jeffcoat-Trant Chapel. Ministers Bruce Green and Claude Flynn officiated. Burial was held in Garden Hills Cemetery. Visitation was Wednesday from 12:30-2 p.m. prior to the service at Jeffcoat-Trant Funeral Home.
Mr. Langston was born Feb. 21, 1935, in Pike County and had lived most of his life in Opelika. He passed away Sunday, Jan. 11, 2015, at Bethany House. Mr. Langston was a member of 10th Street Church of Christ and was retired from Royal Crown Cola in Opelika, James Brown Grocery in Opelika and Kinnett Dairy in Columbus, Ga.
He was preceded in death by his wife Sue W. Langston in 2013.
Survivors include his sons, Michael Langston of Lake Martin and David Langston of Pensacola, Fla.; grandchildren, Brooke Nichole Tilley and Steven Tilley; brother, Dwight Langston (Becky) of Columbus, Ga.; sister Katherine Ingram of Pike County; and several nieces and nephews.

Jerry Neil Davis

Jerry Neil Davis, 81, husband, father and grandfather was called to heaven Jan. 12, 2015, at Bethany House in Auburn. Funeral services to celebrate his life were held at 2 p.m. Jan. 15 at Jeffcoat-Trant Funeral Home, Opelika, with the burial following at Garden Hills Cemetery. Visitation was held Jan. 14 from 5-7 p.m.
Born Sept. 20, 1933, in Flat Creek, Ala., Jerry was the son of Jack and Veola Davis. He graduated from Martin High School in Gorgas, Ala, in 1951. Following graduation he attended Auburn University and co-oped with Alabama Power, graduating in Industrial Management in 1961. He loved Auburn and was a loyal Auburn fan.
Jerry also served two years in the Navy on the USS Wasp, followed by four years in the reserves. He was a 32nd Degree Master Mason. He was employed for 18 years at St. Regis Paper Company in New York then moved to North Carolina as plant manager for Walsh Chemical. He retired from Rhône-Poulenc/Rhodia in Texas in 1998.
He is survived by his loving wife of 52 years, Margaret Owsley Davis; two daughters, Jennifer Hickey (Greg) and Julie Latham (Bill); five grandchildren, Justin, Jaret, Davis, Jamie and Maegan; brother, John Davis (Cathy); and sister, Jane Leonard (Bobby).
