The Opelika High School Athletic Department took the week off due to the AHSAA all-star week in Montgomery. Coach Brian Blackmon is the Offensive Coordinator for the South All-Star football team. Opelika will have two players, Braden Rogers and Demarius Howard, on the South squad. The game will be played tonight at Crampton Bowl in Montgomery.

T.J. Pressley, rising senior, represented Opelika in the All-Star basketball game. Pressley averaged 19 points and 10 rebounds per game last season as a junior.

The OHS football schedule will have a late change. The OHS vs. Carver game scheduled for Thursday, September 20th at Crampton Bowl in Montgomery has to be moved. Alabama State has a football game scheduled for the same night that will be televised on ESPN2.

The two coaches (OHS and Carver) have been trying to find a solution. The options are: 1. move the game to Opelika on Friday, Sept. 21; 2. play at Crampton Bowl on Saturday, Sept. 22, (the same day Auburn University hosts LSU) or 3. play at Crampton Bowl on Wednesday, Sept. 19.

Wow!

Let’s hope the game can be changed to Opelika and the next season Opelika will travel to Carver. This would give the Dawgs five home games and five road games the next two seasons.

Stay tuned for the final decision.

Coaching Changes

Athletic Director and head football coach Bryan Blackmon is trying to find a coach to replace Ryan Thompson, who took a job at Gulf Shores High School. Thompson was the Assistant Head Coach in football and Head Wrestling Coach.

Blackmon has been short two coaches since last year when Tommy Jackson left for Auburn University and SaJason Finley left to join the staff at Arkansas State.

The rumor is that Opelika has asked former Auburn University baseball-football player and former major league baseball player Gabe Gross to join the staff.
