The second annual “One Step at a Time 5K/Walk” will be held Oct. 13 at 7 a.m. on the grounds of Loachapoka High School.
Organized by Lee County resident and 12-year breast cancer survivor Belinda Jackson, proceeds from the event will be donated to the Lee County branch of the American Cancer Society to help find a cure for the disease.
“I’ve been face-to-face with the monster that is cancer, and I don’t want anybody else to have to go through that. As long I’m alive, I plan to battle it,” Jackson said.
Early registration for the event costs $25, and is available until Sept. 15. Registration after Sept. 15 will cost $35 with a final deadline of Sept. 29. Registration forms are available through the Town of Loachapoka’s Facebook page.
T-shirts ranging in size from small to 3XL will be sold during the event for $12 each.
Those interested in vending for the event can contact Jackson by sending an email to loachapoka5kwalk@yahoo.com or calling 334-740-4329.
