OHS winter sports are wide open as the teams continue to practice and play games, wrestle in meets and compete in cheering competitions.

The boys varsity basketball team played in the Auburn High Holliday Classic last week and finished fourth. The Bulldogs (2-3) defeated Robert E. Lee (71-58) in their first game but dropped their next two games to Smiths Station (65-59) and Auburn (59-52).

The loss to Auburn was the first in eight games over a three-year period. The game was tight until the last minute.The two teams were tied with two minutes left when the Tigers went on a 9-2 run to win by seven points. Cody Core and D.J. Macklin scored 16 points each for AHS while T.J. Pressley scored 16 points to lead OHS.

The two teams will play tonight in the first Area game of the season at the sports arena on the Opelika campus. You can listen to the it tonight on WKKR 97.7, Kicker FM at 7 p.m.

The varsity girls have not played since the Jeff Davis loss last Monday but will host Auburn tonight at 6 p.m. at OHS, just ahead of the boys’ game. Both girls and boys teams will travel to Montgomery to battle R.E.Lee on Dec. 13, and host Central Friday night at the Sports Arena.
