Opelika city schools resumed classes last week after the Christmas holiday break. All of the winter sports were involved in games or practice. The Opelika cheer competition team continues to practice for the National Championship competition on Feb. 10-14, in Orlando at Walt Disney’s Wide World of Sports.

This is the first OHS team to make it this far in the competition since 13 years ago when present head coach Brandy Riddle was a student at Opelika High School and a member of the team. Riddle was one of the main reasons the team was reformed and finished second place in the 2011 southern regional competition.

The Opelika wrestling team continued its season with a trip to Birmingham last week for the Scott Rohrer Hoover Invitational meet at Hoover High School. The Bulldogs finished eighth out of the top 25 high school wrestling programs in the state of Alabama. The wrestlers in their weight class are listed below with the results of their matches:
