The annual “Mike Spain Invitational” was held last weekend at the Coach Sam Mason Track on the OHS campus.

Both the boys and girls meets, with track coaches Jimmy Johnson and Jen Neighbors, won.

The OHS girls finished with a season best of 215 points, over 100 points ahead of second place Central.

The OHS boys scored a season best of 179 points which was 44 points ahead of second place, Carrollton High School of Georgia.

Summary of the Opelika girls results

100-meter-dash: Anissa Lewis finished first with a time of 12.30 and Britney Johnson placed sixth with a time of 13.31.

200-meter-dash: Annissa Lewis won the 200-meter-dash with a time of 25.95, Jakayla Hand finished second with a 26.37 and Briahnna Mathews placed fourth with a 27.22.

400-meter-dash: Briahnna Mathews placed second with a time of 1:02.93 and Kamala Thomas finished eighth with at time of 1:05.26.

800-meter-run: Emma Garner won with a time of 2:27.19 and Tanishya Jones placed eighth with a time 2:52.26.

1600 meters: Tarnishya Jones placed second with a time of 6:52.31.

3200-meter: Emma Garner finished first with a time of 12:10.30.

100-meter-hurdles: Breonna Lockhart placed third with a time of 17.74 and Diondra Hill placed fourth with a time of 55.56

4×100 relay team:

The relay team of Tealor Wilson, Anissa Lewis, Britney Johnson and Jakayla Hand finished first with a time of 50.64.

The B-team with Emma Garner, Shamika Smith, Tanisha Jones and Destiny Wilson placed fourth with a time of 4:41.21.

4×800 relay team:

The team of Emma Garner, Tanishya Jones, Akeyla Edwards and Shamika Smith finished second after a time of 11:27.51.

The B-Team with Jasmine Combs, Tiana Foreman, Destiny Foreman and Bre Jones finished fifth with a time of 13:03.95.

High Jump

Kamala Thomas placed second with a jump of 4-feet-10-inches and Skye Guice finished fourth with 4-foot-4inches.

Long Jump

Jakayla Hand placed first with a jump of 17 feet and a half inch.

Triple Jump

Jakayla Hand placed first with a jump of 35-feet-4-inches and Breonna Lockhart placed third with a jump of 34 feet.

Shot Put

Samantha Rawlings won with a throw of 32 feet and 8.5 inches, Ashley Alvis placed second with a throw of 30 feet and 9 inches and Torretta Hughuley placed fourth with a throw of 27-feet-11-inches.

Discus Throw

Ashley Alvis placed fifth with a throw of 81 feet and 10.5 inches and Torretta Hughuly placed sixth with a throw of 81 feet and 3 inches.

The boys top finishers

200-meter-dash: Vashon Landers placed fifth with a time of 23.02 and Jacari Luckey finished fourth with a time of 51.93.

800-meter-run: Cordaryl Whitehead finished first with a time of 2:05.35, James Ray Thrash finished a close second with a time of 2:05.68 and Shakiel Parker placed seventh with a time of 2:13.26.

1600-meter-run: Cordaryl Whitehead placed first with a time of 4:49.12, Shakiel Prker placed second with a time of 4:55.31 and Kane Barrett placed seventh with a time of 5:09.85.

3200-meter-run: James Ray Thrash finished fourth with a time of 11:12.70.

110-meter-hurdles: Cortez Vaughne placed second with a time of 15.92.

300-meter-hurdles: Vashon Landers won with a time of 41.32 and Cortez Vaughn placed fourth with a time of 42.72.

4×100 meter relay: The team of Deshun Pulliam, Vashon Landers, Kenjuan Thompson and Cortez Vaughn placed third with a time of 43.92.

The freshman team ran a 46.57 and finished sixth. Team members are Kion Harris, Thomas Hill, Lyndell Vines and Jakell Tolbert

4×400 meter relay team: The team of Deandre Carlton, Brandon Taylor, Thomas Hill and Jacari Luckey finished second with a time of 3:33.78.

4×800 meter relay team: Cordaryl Whitehead, Shakiel Parker, James Ray Thrash and Kane Barrett finished first with a time of 8:38.56

The B-Team with Andrew Bartlett, Anfernee Williams, Ladrevious Benson and Ben Bryant placed fifth with a time of 9:43.03.

High Jump: T.J. Pressley won the high jump with a jump of 6 feet, Vashon Landers finished third by jumping 5-feet-10-inches and Roy Yancey placed seventh with a jump of 5-feet-6-inches.

Long Jump: Kenjuan Thompson finished fourth with a jump of 19 feet and 10 inches. TJ Pressley placed seventh with a jump of 19-feet-1-inch.

Triple Jump: TJ Pressley placed fourth with a jump of 42-feet-2-inches and Brandon Taylor placed eighth with a jump of 38-feet and 8.5-inches.

Shot Put: Tony Philpot placed second with a throw of 47-feet-4-inches and Cameron Hill placed third with a throw of 46-feet and 5.5 inches

Discus Throw: Tony Philpot threw 149 feet and 5 inches to win the competition while teammate T.J. Griffen placed third with a throw of 112 feet and 6 inches.

This was the best track meet for the boys and girls so far this season. If the teams continue to progress they both have a good chance to advance to the state meet.

The varsity baseball team was rained out Tuesday of this week and the games were not made up by press time.

The Bulldogs will play two games on Saturday at Bulldog Park at noon against Easton High School from Kentucky.

The Dawgs will play at Auburn next Tuesday for an important Area game. The first pitch will be 4 p.m.

The girls golf team will play Auburn in a nine-hole match on April 9, at Indian Pines at 3 p.m.

The girls softball team will travel to Auburn on April 10, for an important area game starting at 4 p.m.

The boys and girls tennis team will host Auburn at the Calhoun Tennis Center April 10, at 3 p.m.

The boys and girls soccer team will host Northview at the Samford Soccer Complex at the Sportsplex April 10, at 5 p.m.

The spring sports are finishing up the regular season, getting ready for the post season. Some of the sports will have tournaments while others will advance to the state playoffs depending on how they finished in the regular season.
