David Snyder

David Snyder, 88, of Opelika, Alabama, passed away on May 27, 2017 at Bethany House. David was born in Akron, OH and moved to Alabama ten years ago. David was a loving and caring family man. He is survived by his wife Arden of 58 years, sons: Ronald (Marisol) Snyder of Fairbanks, AK, Russell (Jodene) Snyder of Cincinnati, OH; daughters: Kris Snyder Retzlaff (Tim) of Opelika, AL, and Michele Snyder (David Burns) of Cleveland, OH. Cherished grandfather of five: Ronnie (Kaye), Bryan, Nat, Melissa, and Nicole. Loving great grandfather of Kate and Lucas. He was preceded in death by his parents, Jesse and Blanche Snyder, and two sisters: Irene Anderson, and Evelyn Struckman. David joined the U.S. Army in September of 1946. After serving in Occupied Japan for 3 years he was Honorably Discharged in 1949. Following his military service he worked briefly in Ohio before travling to Los Alamos, New Mexico to work on a classified Government project. He later returned to Cleveland, Ohio where he worked as a paint formulator at Sherwin Williams until retiring. After retiring he was an avid gardener and obtained the title of Master Gardener while he was a member of the Akron Men’s Garden Club. Upon moving to Alabama he became an active volunteer working at the Lewis Cooper Jr. Memorial Library and East Alabama Medical Center. In his free time he enjoyed playing bridge, working with model trains, and spending time with his Cairn Terriers. A special thank you to Compassus and the Auburn Bethany House for their loving care and support. A memorial service was held at Jeffcoat-Trant Funeral Home on Wednesday, May 31, 2017 at 11:00 a.m. with Rev. Randy Woodham officiating. Visitation began one hour before the service at 10:00 a.m. Interment followed at Fort Mitchell National Cemetery at 1:30p.m. (CST) where David was laid to rest.
