Sergeant First Class James Guy Smith
Sergeant First Class (Ret.) James Guy Smith, 92, was born Aug. 19, 1921, in Chambers County and passed away April 21, 2014.
SFC Smith was a U.S. Army veteran with over 30 years of service to his country, including WWII, Korea and Vietnam.
He was preceded in death by his parents Obediah and Frances Smith; wife Resa Smith; and his son, Jimmy Smith.
He is survived by his granddaughters, Gretchen Hayes (Garfield), Stacy Taylor, India Griffin (Butch); great-granddaughters, Alexys Hayes and Harley Atkinson; great-grandsons, C.J. Dennis, Jesse Dennis, SPC 4, and Tyler Atkinson; and special granddaughter Daisy Mae Smith.
Visitation was held Thursday, April 24 from 6–8 p.m. in the parlor at Frederick-Dean Funeral Home.
Memorial service was held Friday, April 25 at 12 p.m. in the Chapel at Frederick-Dean Funeral Home following interment at Ft. Mitchell National Cemetery.

Jody Lee Floyd
Funeral service for Mr. Jody Lee Floyd, 45, of Opelika was held at 1 p.m. Saturday, April 26 at Pleasant Hill Missionary Baptist Church in Beulah with interment in the church cemetery. The Rev. Tyrice Holt officiated.
Mr. Floyd passed Friday, April 18, at his home in Opelika. He was a member of Pleasant Hill Missionary Baptist Church. In 1987 he graduated from Smiths Station High School.
The family received friends at the funeral home. His remains liad in state at the church one hour prior to the service.
Survivors: his parents, Gene and Charlie Bell Floyd of Opelika; two sisters, Christine Floyd of Opelika and Bobbie (Rickey) Core of Beauregard; a niece, Jennifer Gray of Opelika; three nephews, Anthony Gray and Dexter Gray, both of Opelika, and Casey Core of Beauregard; four aunts, Joan Turner and Betty Lee (Robert) Walker, both of Smiths, Carrie Lee Brooks of Beulah and Mary Francis Floyd of Valley; two uncles, Louis (Earline) Tripp of Chicago, Ill., and Lummey Dunn of Beulah; and a host of cousins, other relatives and friends.

Carolyn Diane Felton Dunk
Funeral service for Mrs. Carolyn Diane Felton Dunk, 53, of Auburn was held at 12 p.m. Monday, April 28 at Oak Grove Baptist Church with interment in Mt. Vernon Church Cemetery. The Rev. Chester Levett officiated.
Mrs. Dunk passed Wednesday, April 23 at Nolan Health Service, Inc. in Montgomery. She was a member Oak Grove Baptist Church. In 1978, she graduated from Loachapoka High School.
Her remains laid in state at the church one hour prior to the service. The family respectfully request in lieu of flowers and green plants, memorials may be made in her memory to: Oak Grove Baptist Church Building Fund 2461 U.S. Highway 29N; Auburn, AL 36830.
Survivors: a daughter, Ashley M. Felton of Albany, Ga.; a sister, Jessie (Donald) Wade of Huntsville; three brothers, Freddie Felton Jr. of Syracuse, N.Y., John Felton Sr., of Auburn and Willie James (Mary) Felton of Missouri City, Texas; several nieces, nephews, great nieces and great nephews; four aunts, Lula Seawright of Syracuse, N.Y., Lillie Mae (Willie) Sullins of Tuskegee, Lucy Mae (Nathaniel) Boyd of Atlanta, Ga., and Sally Felton of Missouri City, Texas; three uncles, Johnnie Ogletree and Eddie Ogletree both of Syracuse, N.Y., and Lloyd Ogletree of Tuskegee; a special friend, George Dowdell of Auburn; and a host of other relatives and friends.

Stuart Lee McQuinn
Stuart Lee McQuinn, 47, of Auburn passed away Saturday, April 26. He was born Sept. 22, 1966, in Indianapolis, Ind. His passion for Auburn was infectious, WAR EAGLE! He loved a good discussion about science and space. He was a wonderful husband and best friend to his wife.
Mr. McQuinn was preceded in death by his brother, Jimmy McQuinn.
Survivors include his wife, Julia McQuinn; sons, Lee McQuinn, Mark Hanson, and Jeremy Hanson; parents, James and Barbara McQuinn; mother-in-law, Lynn Gravette; sisters, Lisa Mills, Jai Khalsa, Helen Fletcher; and sister-in-law, Lynnette Burton.
A visitation for Mr. McQuinn was held Wednesday, April 30 from 6-8 p.m. at Jeffcoat-Trant Funeral Home.

Willie Ray “Bubba” Hardnett Sr.
Funeral service for Mr. Willie Ray “Bubba” Hardnett Sr., 75, of Opelika was held at 2 p.m. Thursday, May 1, at Peterson and Williams Chapel with interment in Garden Hills Cemetery. The Rev. Roger Jones officiated.
Mr. Hardnett passed Sunday, April 27, 2014, at his home.
The family received friends at the funeral home.
Survivors: his mother, Willie Mae Hardnett, Lafayette; children, Mary (Willie) Avery, Opelika, Sarah (Billie) Dixon and Willie Ray Hardnett Jr., both of Milledgeville, Ga., Mary (Charlie) Dunn, Opelika and Albert (Brenda) Simpson, Roanoke; ten grandchildren and five great grandchildren; one sister, Louella Hardnett, Lafayette; two brothers, Fletcher Dawson and David Hardnett both of Lafayette; one uncle, Bubba Nelson of Camp Hill; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.

Sharon Ann Hudson Schoonover
Sharon Ann Hudson Schoonover, age 68, passed away suddenly on April 28, 2014. She was born in Lynchburg, Va., to Lawrence R. Hudson and Illia Womack Hudson on Sept. 20, 1945. After graduating from E.C. Glass High School in Lynchburg, she attended West Hampton College in Richmond, Va., where she met her husband of almost 49 years, Richard C. Schoonover Jr. They lived in Clemmons, N.C. for many years before retiring to Auburn.
Sharon was an avid tennis player, loved tending her flowers and relished spending time with her grandchildren. A former caterer, she was an excellent cook who took pleasure in feeding her family and friends and in creating a warm and welcoming home.
Sharon was a loving wife, mother and “Bebe” to her beloved grandchildren, as well as a devoted sister, aunt and niece. She is survived by husband Rick, son Ryan and daughter-in-law Carla, grandchildren Natalie and Connor of Auburn, sisters Linda Kay McGowan (John) and Laura Robertson (Barry), sister-in-law Karyn Keppler (John), aunt Kay V. Hudson, and loving nieces, nephews and grandnieces and grandnephew. Her family will dearly miss her and her loving, generous spirit.
A memorial service was held on Thursday, May 1, 2014, at 11:30 a.m. at Jeffcoat-Trant Chapel. The family received visitors from 10-11:30 a.m. prior to the service at Jeffcoat-Trant Funeral Home. In lieu of flowers, the family requests the donations be made to the Parkway Baptist Preschool.
