Mary E. Chandler, age 97, of Opelika, was born on Sept. 19, 1914, in Elmore County and passed away on Nov. 7, at Arbor Springs in Opelika. She was a member of First Baptist Church of Opelika for over 60 years, member of the Eastern Star, retired LPN from Lee County Hospital, a Pink Lady at EAMC, and a Red Cross volunteer. She was the daughter of Albert Traylor and Odessa Colley.

Chandler was preceded in death by her husband, Hugh Chandler; sister, Mildred Owen; brother, George Blankenship Jr.; sons, James Dennison Sr. and Tommy Chandler; and daughter, Joyce Chandler. She is survived by her granddaughters, Nancy (Mike) Bordeaux, Ruth Dennison, and Lois (Gaines) Pugh; grandson, Melton (Connie) Dennison Jr.; sons, Jimmy (Rosemary) Chandler and William (Leah Dell) Chandler; granddaughters, Peggy (Jeffery) Hoffert, Cathy Tiasecki, Carol (Bobby) Nipper, Angie Chandler, Leane (Allen) Nhoybouakong; grandson, Eric (Mary) Chandler; sister, Claire Avery; brother, Arthur Blankenship; 20 great grandchildren; 29 great-great grandchildren; four great-great-great grandchildren; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
