The Lee-Scott boys basketball team got revenge against Prattville Christian last Friday as they won the state championship 52-47.
The boys jumped out to an 11-point lead in the first period, but Prattville Christian bounced back to overcome the deficit in the third period as they took the lead. A key steal in the fourth and a quick two by Joshua Pointer started the final run for the Warriors as they won the game 52-47, giving the Warriors the first boys title since head coach Chad Prewett took over.
The boys were led by starting point guard MarQuen Mithchell who had 15 points and six rebounds. Senior Chris Garner also heavily contributed by playing great defense and also added seven points.
As for the Lee-Scott girls basketball team, they reign supreme once again as they defeated Wilcox 53-48 in overtime. This time it wasn’t the normal Lee-Scott beatdown that is always worth noting. Wilcox led at the beginning of the game and took momentum to the locker room as Wilcox guard Anna Gibbs hit a buzzer shot behind the three point line. This gave Wilcox a 32-24 lead heading into the half.
The Warriors ended the third period with a three-point lead, but it didn’t last long as Wilcox seemed to answer the call after every basket of the Warriors. Senior Abigail Maddox hit two clutch free throws to send the game to overtime. Maddox eventually fouled out in overtime but finished her Lee-Scott career with all-tournament honors.
Lee-Scott took over in a four-minute overtime as they won by five. Breanne DeBaets received all-tournament honors along with Savannah Starr winning tournament MVP. Wilcox’s do-it-all guard Rachel Bell finished the night with a game high of 23 points.
The Lee-Scott girls captured their third state title in the last four years.
