Louise Wertz Ramsey of Magnolia Place in Auburn, passed away on Jan. 7. She was 99 years old.
Ramsey was born Louise Wertz to Russian immigrants in Lincoln, Neb. on Sept. 17, 1912. When she was 5 years old, her family moved to Havelock, Neb. where she lived until her family moved to Falls City, Neb. in 1922. Ramsey spent the rest of her growing-up years in Falls City and graduated from Falls City High School in 1931.
She married William James Ramsey in Lincoln, Neb. on April 12, 1936. They traveled to Pasadena, Calif. in 1941 to watch Nebraska play Stanford in the Rose Bowl. They wound up staying in California where, during the war years, they both worked at the Douglas Airplane plant in Santa Monica, Calif. She worked as an executive secretary there.
In 1947, Ramsey and her husband “Bill” moved to Sedalia, Mo. where they opened Tally Ho #2, a liquor store on the east side of town just outside the city limits on US Highway 50; and which they ran until 1966.
Mr. and Mrs. Ramsey raised two children and Mrs. Ramsey was active in their children’s school and church activities. She was President of PTA at Horace Mann Elementary School and Secretary-Treasurer of Sedalia PTA Council. She also was Acolyte Mother, President of Saint Margaret’s Guild, and Secretary-Treasurer of Calvary Church Women at Calvary Episcopal Church.
Ramsey is survived by her brother Fred Wertz, Jr. of Sedalia, Mo.; her children Connie McFarland of Auburn and Kent Ramsey of Mechanicsville, Md.; her grandchildren Jennifer DelFante and Jeff McFarland of Auburn and Nathan Hurry of Mechanicsville, Md.; and her great-grandchildren Devon and Asher DelFante of Auburn.
