Lela Parks Campbell, 85, of Opelika passed away on Jan. 1, 2012, at East Alabama Medical Center after a brief illness.

Campbell was born Sept. 4, 1926, in Pike County and moved to Opelika in 1958. Campbell was most recently employed by Pediatric Clinic of Opelika and was formerly employed at Farmers National Bank and Opelika Coca-Cola Bottling Company. She was an active member of Opelika First Baptist Church for more than 50 years and was a member of Sarah Sunday School Class.

Campbell was preceded in death by her husband, Douglas Campbell. She is survived by two daughters, Jeanene (Rusty) Knorr of Newnan, Ga., and Jane (Ronnie) Wilson of Opelika. Survivors also include grandchildren, Jay (Kelly) Knorr, of Auburn, Kathryn Knorr of Birmingham, Perri (Levale) Wilson Speigner, Ticer Wilson, and Mary Carlton Wilson, all of Opelika; and four great grandchildren, Landon and Jackson Knorr and Campbell and Grant Speigner.

A funeral for Campbell was held at 10 a.m. on Jan. 4, at First Baptist Church of Opelika. Reverend Steve Scoggins officiated. Visitation took place in the Mary Denson Samford Parlor from 9 a.m. until 10 a.m. A graveside service followed at Garden Hills Cemetery. In lieu of flowers the family requests that memorials be made to First Baptist Church of Opelika. Jeffcoat-Trant Funeral Home & Crematory directed.
