A funeral service for James E. Kirkland, 84, of Opelika was held at 4 p.m. on Oct. 30, 2011, at Jeffcoat- Trant Chapel. Reverend Steve Scoggins officiated. Burial was held at Garden Hills Cemetery. Visitation was Saturday from 5 p.m. until 7 p.m. at Jeffcoat-Trant Funeral Home.
Kirkland was born Nov. 21, 1926, in Avondale, Fla. He passed away on Oct. 28, 2011. He was the owner of K&W Heating & Air, and a member of First Baptist Church of Opelika. He was preceded in death by his two wives, Gladys Thrasher Kirkland and Jean Ray Kirkland.
He is survived by two children, James Earl (Lynn) Kirkland, Patricia Anne Hudson; six grandchildren, Mirenda Etter, Chris Etter, Kevin (Brandi) Kirkland, Liz (Mike) Lloyd, James (Kristy) Hudson, Jackie Hudson; 10 great grandchildren, Kinsley Kirland, Cole Kirland, Katie Kirland, James Hedden, Paul Hedden, Dillion Hudson, Kalob Hudson, Payne Hudson, Autumn Hudson, Dakota Hudson; and nephew, Carl (Dawn) Thrasher.
