Special to the
Opelika Observer

Mikayla Jackson, daughter of Steve and Demetra (DeDe) Jackson of Opelika, was recently crowned Miss. Alabama Baptist 2016.  Mikayla is an out-going senior at Opelika High School, who is active in her church and the community.  The contest took place during the Red Circle and Young Women’s Auxiliary Wedding of the Roses Pageant held during the Southeast Alabama State Baptist Convention in Selma.
Mikayla was crowned queen in the local pageant representing the Auburn District, a prerequisite for the state competition last December.  Both crownings were historical markers for the Auburn District as well as Southeast Alabama.  Mikayla was escorted by Kenneth G. Jones, II and Sister C. W. Hobbs, Counselor.
Mikayla is grateful to God for the opportunity she had to compete and the blessing of being chosen for these honors.  Sincere gratitude for donations, prayers, encouragement, and support is extended to President Jean Madden and the Auburn District Women’s Department along with Sister Cathy Newkirk, President Robert Wilson and the Auburn District Laymen, the Southeast District Women’s Department, her pastor and church family, Rev. Clifford Jones and Greater Peace Missionary Baptist Church and a number of other supporters.
