The Opelika City School Board of Education met April 19 where Dr. Brenda Rickett announced her resignation as assistant superintendent. The resignation will go into effect in June, and Rickett will assume the same position for Alabaster City Schools after nine years of serving Opelika. Rickett said she appreciates her time in Opelika and has enjoyed working with the members of the board. According to Superintendent Mark Neighbors, Rickett will be missed, and several applications have already been received for the job opening.
In other business, the board:
-approved two out-of-state field trips to Atlanta for Opelika High School.
– Approved the 2017-2018 and 2018-2019 school calendars.
