Funeral services for David E. Crawford Sr. 64, of Opelika was held on Oct. 18, 2011, at 11 a.m. at Jeffcoat-Trant Funeral Home Chapel. Reverend Mary James officiated. Visitation was on Oct. 17, 2011, from 5 p.m. until 7 p.m. at the funeral home.

Crawford was born April 24, 1947, to the late William Harper and Ruby L. Crawford. He was a member of Straightway Holiness Church in Opelika where he served as Deacon and dedicated Sunday School teacher. He was employed at Uniroyal for 23 and a half years. He later retired from Auburn City Schools after 11 years.

David is preceded in death by his parents William H. and Ruby L. Crawford and his sister Selena M. Marcum.

He is survived by his wife Nora, two daughters; Rebecca Turner and Delaine (Ernest) O’Neail, one son; David E. Crawford Jr. and four grandchildren; Laeah O’ Neail, Cade O’Neail, Lyric Davis and Bailey Davis, five brothers; Bill (Barbara) Crawford, Willie (Corentha) Crawford, Daniel Crawford, Luther (Penny) Crawford and Pete (Sue) Crawford all of Opelika and his sisters; Ellen (Kent) Young of Ludlow Falls, Ohio, Helen (Lamar) Harpe of Dothan, Ala. and Maxine (Walter) Pynes of Satsuma, Ala., and numerous nieces and nephews.

His life’s service was to serve the Lord and be a pillar of faith among family and friends. He loved his grandchildren (Laeah, Cade, Lyric and Bailey), church, flea markets and the family dogs (Solo, Cesar and Jack).
