A funeral service for Bonnell Taylor Douglas, 89, of Opelika, was held at 2 p.m. on Oct. 30, 2011, at Jeffcoat-Trant Chapel. Reverend Steve Scoggins officiated. Burial was held at Garden Hills Cemetery. Visitation was held on Sunday one hour prior to the service at Jeffcoat-Trant Funeral Home.

Douglas was born Jan. 12, 1922, in Alma, Ga. She passed away on Oct. 27, 2011, in Opelika. She worked many years at the Montgomery Fair and later Gayfers in the children’s department. Douglas was a long time member of First Baptist Church of Opelika and the Adult Two Sunday School class.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Burnis J. Douglas; daughter, Sherry Diane Douglas; sister,Geraldine Schwartz; and parents, Clevon and Hubert Taylor.

Mrs. Douglas is survived by daughter, Gail Douglas (Jack) Swarthout of Opelika; grandchildren, April Swarthout (Tim) Harrington of Opelika, Carol Swarthout (Rusty) Robinson of Opelika; great grandchildren, Austin Harrington, Trey Owens, Clayton Harrington, Anna Gail Harrington, Russell Robinson; and several nieces and nephews.

The family suggests in lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be directed to First Baptist Church of Opelika or Trinity United Methodist Church of Opelika.
