Alabama’s 11th annual Back-to-School Sales Tax Holiday will begin at 12:01 a.m. on Friday, Aug. 7, and ends at midnight on Sunday, Aug. 9.
“You don’t have to be a student or even an Alabama resident to save money the weekend of Aug. 5-7 because of the annual Back-to-School Sales Tax Holiday,” said Alabama Revenue Commissioner Julie Magee. “Products include items such as clothing, sports equipment, computers, and, of course, school supplies.”
Opelika, as well as all other taxing jurisdictions (Lee County, Auburn and Smiths Station) in the county, are participating in the Sales Tax Holiday, meaning you can purchase any eligible item next weekend anywhere in Lee County without paying state, county or city sales tax. This amounts to a nine percent saving on purchases of all eligible items.
