Carl Arthur Hill, Jr.

Carl Arthur Hill, Jr. of Auburn, Alabama, passed away on May 11, 2015.
Mr. Hill was born May 25, 1925, in Vicksburg, Mississippi. He was the son of Carl Arthur Hill, Sr., and Alberta Pearson Hill.
Mr. Hill earned his Bachelor’s and Master’s degrees in Education from Mississippi State. He was deeply committed to public education and to his students and taught math, science and horticulture in Mississippi and South Florida for thirty years. A member of Auburn First Baptist, Mr. Hill was a devout man of faith, having helped establish several Baptist churches and serving in an array of church offices over the decades.
Mr. Hill was in the U. S. Navy in the Pacific during World War II. That departure from the family farm after the Great Depression led to a life-long interest in travel. He and Neda, his beloved wife of 65 years, visited every U.S. state and much of Europe. To celebrate their fiftieth anniversary, the couple traveled to Australia and New Zealand.
Mr. Hill was a skilled horticulturalist whose love of the earth showed in the beauty of his flowers and the bounty of his fruits and vegetables. Trailing him through the garden was always a baby goat, a faithful dog, or his grandson, Ethan.
A much-loved husband and father, Mr. Hill is survived by his wife Neda; son Chuck (Carl, III); daughter-in-law Donna Sollie; grandson Ethan; sister Catherine Wallace (Rev. Taylor) of Enterprise, Mississippi; brother Ernest (Peggy) of South Carolina; nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by a brother, George of Gold Hill, Oregon.
A visitation was held at the Fellowship Hall of Auburn First Baptist May 18 at 10 a.m. followed by a Memorial Service at 11 a.m.
In lieu of flowers, the family encourages contributions to the Food Bank of East Alabama or to Auburn First Baptist Church.
