Mary Ruth Sexton Shepard of Opelika, Alabama was born to the late Grady and Rosie Sexton on August 27, 1926 and passed away at her home surrounded by family on October 25, 2017. She was 91 years old.
MaMa Ruth was a hard working, loving, caring person who touched many lives.
She was retired from West Point Pepperell after many years of service. She fought a hard, long 12 year battle with cancer like a true warrior. She had a heart of gold was the most giving, generous person you would ever meet. She loved cooking, playing rook, dominos, and spending time with those she loved. Her favorite time of year was Christmas.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Walter Monroe Shepard and son, Ronnie Burnette; brothers, Harold and Buddy Sexton; sisters, Mildred, Lorene, Clara and Geneva.
She is survived by her daughters, Linda Faye Clark (Billy) and Donna Sue Bryant (Randy); grandchildren, Richie Burnette, Keith Burnette (Christy), Johnny Clark, Jay Clark (Anne), Derrick Bryant (Tanya), Daniel Bryant; great grandchildren, Brandi Rogers (Chris), Trent Burnette, Tyler Burnette, Sarah Clark, Hannah Clark, Rebekah Clark, Deborah Clark, Leah Clark, Beau Bryant, Emmerson Moore; great-great grandchildren, Kinsley and Raelynn, as well as numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, and other family members that she loved very much. Special friend Eugene (Gene) Cason.
Visitation was held Thursday, October 26, 2017 at Frederick-Dean Funeral Home Parlor from 6:00 until 8:00 p.m.
Funeral services were held Friday, October 27, 2017 in the Chapel at Frederick-Dean Funeral Home at 11:00 a.m. with Reverend, Ken Stover officiating. Interment followed at Garden Hills Cemetery.
The family would like to send a special thanks to Dr. Linda Farmer and the staff at the Cancer Center, as well as Dana and the staff at Campassus Hospice.
