Mr. Andrew Jackson (Jackie) Osment, Jr. was born in Birmingham, AL on December 9, 1929 and passed away Tuesday, October 10, 2017.  He was born to parents, Andrew Jackson Osment and Martha William Moore.  Mr. Osment was a lifetime resident of Opelika, except for the 10 years he lived in Florida and worked for Texaco Oil Company.  He graduated from Opelika High School and attended Auburn University prior to being drafted in the U.S. Army.
Mr. Osment was a veteran of the Korean Conflict and served in the Armored Field Artillery Red Devil Division.  He received the Korean Campaign medal with one star, Korean Presidential Unit Citation and other awards.  He was honorably discharged with the rank of Staff Sergeant.
Mr. Osment owned and operated Osment’s Store in Opelika for many years, loved his farm, lake and turkey hunting.
Jackie was preceded in death by his wife, Margaret Robertson Osment.  He is survived by his brother, Neil Osment (Mirtha); stepson, Randy Robertson (Darlene); grandchildren, Shea Templeton and Levi Templeton (Mary); six great-grandchildren; nephew, James Andrew Osment; and nieces, Susan Potter and Melanie Jimmerson.
A graveside service was held on Saturday, October 14, 2017 at 2:00 p.m. in Garden Hills Cemetery with Dr. Mike King officiated.  The family respectfully declines the gift of flowers and suggests memorial donations may be directed to the Lee County Humane Society, 1140 Ware Drive, Auburn, AL 36832.
