Gene Meadows

Gene Meadows, age 85, of Opelika passed away on September 22, 2017. He was born on November 3, 1931, to the late O.K. and Elizabeth Meadows, in Graceville, FL and moved to Opelika in 1963.
Mr. Meadows served in the Unites States Navy and he was general sales manager at Davis-Dyar Supply in Opelika for 32 years. As an active member of First Baptist Church of Opelika, he served as a Sunday School Teacher and Deacon for several years.
Mr. Meadows was preceded in death by his first wife of 25 years, Bobbie Faye Meadows, and his second wife also of 25 years, Jeanette Wilson Meadows. He is survived by son, Steve Meadows (Theo); son, Craig Meadows (Terri); son, Gary Meadows (Diedre); son, John Meadows (Alice); daughter, Janet Meadows Powers (Paul); stepson, Ronnie Wilson (Jane); stepson, David Wilson; and stepdaughter, Lynne Wilson Hudson (Jeff). He was “Pawpaw” to his grandchildren: Steven Meadows (Ashley), Conner Meadows (Katie), Heather Meadows Floyd (David), Tommy Meadows (Tiffany), Garrett Meadows, Michael Meadows, Tatum Meadows Black (Will), Owen Meadows, Holland Powers, Tripp Powers, and Turner Powers; and step-grandchildren: Perri Wilson Speigner (Levale), Ticer Wilson, Mary Carlton Wilson, Wilson Hudson, and Andrew Hudson. He loved his precious great-grandchildren and step-great-grandchildren: Sawyer Meadows, Hudson Meadows, Hayes Meadows, Nate Meadows, Haylee Floyd, David Floyd, James Floyd, Claire Floyd, Audrey Bennett, Campbell Speigner, and Grant Speigner.
Mr. Meadows’ funeral was held at First Baptist Church of Opelika, Sunday, September 24th, at 3:30 p.m., with Dr. Mike King officiating. Visitation immediately preceded from 2:30 to 3:30 p.m. in the parlor of First Baptist Opelika. Burial in Garden Hills Cemetery, Opelika, followed the service.
