Well, the Opelika Chiefs kept on rolling last Saturday night, chalking up a 44-0 win over the East Lake War Eagles from Tarpon Springs,FL., at  Bobcat Stadium in Beulah. The Chiefs ran their season’s record to 6 – 1 with a dominating victory over the 11th ranked War Eagles. As a measure of how thoroughly the Chiefs dominated, they led 24-0 at the end of the first quarter.
The entire offense contributed to the win, although in some respects the game could be called the Kyle Caldwell show as the former Dadeville and Livingston University star was seven for 10 passing for 143 yards and four touchdowns, ran five times for 15 yards, caught a pass for 15 yards, kicked two extra points and consistently kicked off deep into War Eagles territory. Oh, I almost forgot: he passed for one 2-point conversion and ran for another.
The coaching staff featured most of the Chiefs’ stable of running backs for one or two series each: TJ Griffin ( four carries for nine yards and a TD), Will Mckenzie (three for 29 yards), Mike Eiland (five carries for 62 yards and a TD) and Latrell Jenkins (three carries for 20 yards).
Ki-Shawn Powell and Rodney Johnson each caught TD passes and Ralph Spry hauled in two of them.
Everyone on defense should have gotten a game ball for a thorough effort. The usual names contributed their share: Vashon Landers, David Ray II,  Matthew Kelly and Jamarlo Alford. The Chiefs’ defense racked up four sacks for the game.
The Chiefs play the West Alabama Chargers from Tuscaloosa this Saturday night at Bobcat Stadium at 7 p.m. Come on out, join the 250 or so loyal fans who already support the Chiefs and see some really good football. These are local guys, they are good football players, they put on a good show and they deserve your support.
