On Wednesday, April 26, 2017, Melanie Ann Smith Cosby went to be with our Lord and Savior. She died at Lake Martin Community Hospital in Dadeville. Melanie was born December 16, 1969, in Opelika, AL. She left this earthly world to be with her father, Harry W. Smith, who recently passed. Her passing was on her Daddy’s birthday. She was also preceded in death by her grandparents, Herman and Jessie Edwards, and Wilson H. and Bertie Lee Smith.
She is survived by her loving husband, Rex Cosby of Dadeville; mother, Mary Lou Smith of Auburn; sister, Cindy Shadow of Opelika; and her special pet Yorkie, Lou-Lou. She is also survived by her step-children and two grandchildren she dearly loved, Pacelea Shaw of Alex City, Cade Cosby (Ashton) of Reeltown, and Whitney Helms (Todd) and their children, Abigail and Lilly of Auburn. Other survivors include numerous beloved aunts, uncles and cousins, and special friends, Jim and Nadine Rice. Melanie loved all of her family as though they were either her second set of parents and /or siblings.
Melanie went to work for Auburn University in 1989 and had been with the Department of Contracts and Grants Accounting since 2003. Melanie loved photography, collecting dolls, stuffed animals, antique dishes, family memorabilia, and her scrap booking projects. She also loved flowers, the color pink, nature, animals, living the country life, reading her bible and many devotions, as well as the Auburn Tigers.
A funeral service was held at 2:00 p.m. Saturday, April 29, 2017 at Jeffcoat-Trant Funeral Home in Opelika. Visitation with family was 12:00 p.m. preceding the service. Burial followed the service at Little Texas Cemetery in Macon County.
