Golden

Arthur Charles Golden was born November 22, 1947 in Opelika, Alabama and lost his fight with cancer on March 12th, 2017. He was known as Art to his friends and family and was an avid animal rescuer and enjoyed spending time outdoors hunting and fishing. Art was preceded in death by his parents Adrian Golden and Mary Golden. He is survived by his brother Gilbert Golden and daughters Kylee Thomley and Stacey Linn, and will be terribly missed by his dogs Lucky, Druppie and Jack. Art graduated from Opelika High School in 1965 and was drafted into the US Army in 1966 to join the Vietnam conflict in the artillery unit. After that he went on to serve his community with the Opelika Fire Department in 1968 and transferred to the Auburn Fire Department, where he retired as shift commander after 29 years of firefighting. Art received his Fire Science degree from Central Alabama Community College and completed the Fire Academy at Southern Union. He continued passing on his personal experience and knowledge to young fire fighters. Arthur Golden will be remembered as a fighter for our country and community, an outdoorsman, a dedicated animal rescuer, and beloved father and friend to many.
The family held a memorial service at Jeffcoat-Trant Funeral Home in Opelika on Thursday, March 16th at 6:00pm. In lieu of flowers the family requests donations be made to the Tallapoosa County Humane Society.
