The Opelika Chiefs beat the Alabama Spartans of Troy 35 – 0 last Saturday night at Beulah High School stadium. The Chiefs played one of their best games of the season so far, both offensively and defensively. Kyle Caldwell had his best night passing, completing 21 of 31 for 271 yawrds. He also ran for two touchdowns. And, to the delight of old-time football fans, he actually drop-kicked an extra point! (Find the oldest football fan you know and ask him/her to explain “drop-kick” to you.}
The Chiefs’ defense, led by Vashon Landers, Matthew Kelley and Jamarlo Alford, gained their first shut-out of the season. Pressley, Doster and Spry caught the TD passes while Ladecker Johnson picked off one of the Spartan throws.
This Saturday night the fourth-ranked Chiefs will play the 11th-ranked East Lake War Eagles from Tarpon Springs, FL. at Beulah stadium. Game time is 7 p.m. (Central time). This game results from a schedule change, so don’t be confused if your printed schedule differs.
