The mystery of which establishment would fill the former Tyler’s Restaurant building on Geneva Street was solved yesterday after a new sign was erected. Granny’s Southern Cooking, a cafeteria-style country restaurant is scheduled to open next month.
Owner Pelle Degucci said he believes the community will respond well to the restaurant. Degucci is not a restaurant novice – he has owned and operated the Wing King on Crawford Road for 25 years.
The new restaurant, which will seat 108 people, will feature southern-style, home-cooked food, including fried and baked chicken, hamburger steak, oxtails and barbecue ribs.
Prices for meat-and-two platters start at $7.95. When the restaurant opens, call in orders are welcome and can be placed by calling 703-4500.
Degucci said fresh, locally sourced produce will be a mainstay of Granny’s Southern Cooking. “That’s one of our main concepts, that everything is fresh. Fresh veggies, no frozen anything, that’s one thing we will be priding ourselves on,” Degucci said. “We’ve talked to the farmer’s market down the street, and they’re going to be one of our suppliers. I really like doing business locally if I can, I like keeping proceeds here in the community.”
Granny’s Southern Cooking will be open 7 days a week, from 6 a.m.-9 p.m.
