Rosanna McGinnis was named librarian of the Opelika public library, Lewis Cooper Jr. Memorial Library Jan. 2.
She graduated from the University of Montevallo with a bachelors degree in English. In 2010, she completed her Masters Degree in Library Information Studies at the University of Alabama. She has previously worked as a librarian in Japan and California for the U.S. Marine Corps.
McGinnis comes from a military family, so her childhood was filled with moving from place to place. However, she and her family call Birmingham home. After her husband retired from the Navy, and with the librarian position in Opelika up for grabs, the McGinnis family decided this would be a great way to be close to family in Birmingham. “I’m really excited about putting down roots and getting to know a town and building a relationship with the community,” McGinnis said. “I want that for my children because I had to move around so much as a kid.” She has four children who will attend Opelika Middle School next year.
McGinnis said her new job has been going well so far, and she is looking forward to using the library to help the residents of Opelika. She encourages everyone to stop by the library and meet her. “I’m always up for meeting new people,” she said.
