Keep Opelika Beautiful is gearing up for the annual Christmas tree recycling event. The public is invited to recycle their Christmas trees Jan. 2 from 9 a.m. – noon.   The event location has moved from previous years. Christmas tree recycling will take place at the Opelika Depot, 1032 South Railroad Avenue, the new office of Keep Opelika Beautiful. The retired Norfolk-Southern caboose located next to the Depot will be open during the event.
The Opelika Tree Commission will also be giving away seedlings in exchange for Christmas trees. The seedlings will be nuttall oak trees planted in one gallon containers.
Christmas trees brought to the event must be natural with all ornaments, tinsel, lights and tree stands removed.
