Counselors from Auburn University’s Harrison School of Pharmacy and the Alabama State Health Insurance & Assistance Program (SHIP) will be in Opelika on Thursday, November 12 to offer free Medicare Part D enrollment counseling. The session will run from 10 a.m. – 3 p.m. at the Goodwill Career Center in Opelika at 3740 Pepperell Pkwy.

Open enrollment for Medicare Part D began on Oct. 15, running through Dec. 7.

“A Medicare beneficiary faces a choice of 30-40 plans and these plans change every year,” said program coordinator Dr. Salisa Westrick. “One plan that is best for one person may not be best for another. We sit down with them and explain what everything means to them, so that they will be able to make the best decision for themselves. When beneficiaries participate in this program, they get free and unbiased assistance.”

The counselors at the session include students from the Harrison School of Pharmacy, as well as staff from the Alabama State Health Insurance & Assistance Program. The local contact for the event is Amber Bean and she can be reached at 334-749-5264. More information can be found online at http://pharmacy.auburn.edu/community.
