A funeral service for Stanley J. Gaberlavage, 89, of Opelika, was held at 3 p.m. on Dec. 30, 2011, at Jeffcoat-Trant Chapel with visitation from 1 p.m. until 3 p.m.

Gaberlavage was born on April 7, 1922, in Inkerman, Pa. He passed away on Dec. 28, 2011, at the Bill Nichols Home in Alexander City. Gaberlavage was a veteran of WWII and in 1965 established Stanley’s Texaco in Opelika. He continued to operate the business until 1989 when he sold the business and retired to Lake Martin. Soon after his retirement he established Mr. Stanley’s Peanuts. Gaberlavage is preceded in death by his wife Helen Gooden Gaberlavage of Opelika.

He is survived by three children, Stanley J. Gaberlavage, Jr. (Dot), Marilyn G. Cooper, Thomas P. Gaberlavage (Ellen); sister, Matilda Zaccardi (Ed) of Flushing, N.Y.; brother, George Gaberlavage of Arlington, Va.; four grandchildren, Scottie K. Bryant (Tara), Christie Bryant Parker (Chris), Paul Gaberlavage (Ginny), Hayley J. Gaberlavage, and several great grandchildren.
