Elizabeth Ware
Memorial services for Elizabeth “Libby” Heard Ware were held Nov. 11 at Jeffcoat-Trant Funeral Home at 4 p.m., with a visitation following the service. She died Nov. 9 at her residence. She was born Sept. 23, 1926 in Birmingham, Ala. She was preceded in death by her husband Lamar M. Ware, of 57 years, and her parents Carrie H. Heard and Arthur Zellars Heard of Birmingham, Ala.
She is survived by two sons, Lamar Robert Ware of Columbus, Ga. and Ronnie Heard Ware and wife Tina of Auburn; two grandsons Brock Pelman Ware and Dac Lamar Ware.
She attended Auburn University where she was a member of Alpha Gamma Delta Sorority and is a Life Member of the Auburn Alumni Association. In 1946 she and Lamar founded Ware Jewelers where she worked with him for 53 years being responsible for the Bridal Department. She was a member of Auburn First Baptist Church since 1946 and belonged to the Mary Martha Sunday School Class. She belonged to the Village Gardeners and served on the board of the Lee County Humane Society for several years. In lieu of flowers the family will appreciate contributions to your favorite charity.

Ruth Lauderdale Kent
Ruth Kent, 72, of Opelika passed away Nov. 4 in Montgomery at the home of her oldest son, Mike King, after a brief illness with lung cancer. Visitation will be Nov. 8 at 11 a.m. with a Memorial Service to follow in the chapel at noon at Jeffcoat-Trant Funeral Home. Graveside to follow at Rosemere Cemetery. Reverend Rusty Sowell officiated.
Ruth is survived by her children: Mike King (Kathy), Lisa Lira (Rich), Cindy Best (Darren), and Thomas Smith (Angela); nine grandchildren: Anna Kate King, Morgan, Olivia and Michael Lira, Leslie Garzee King and Andrew Garzee, Elizabeth Smith, Darren Jr. and Nicole Best; Four great-grandchildren: Jayden Best, Eric and Emily King and Ansley Garzee; sister, Jeanette Foster and brother, Willie “Buddy” Lauderdale (Krystyna); numerous nieces and nephews including one niece especially close to her heart, Debra Griffin. Flowers will be accepted or memorials may be made to Baptist Hospice, 501 Interstate Park, Montgomery, AL 36109.

Linda S. Gunter
Funeral service for Linda S. Gunter, 72, of Opelika was 11 a.m. Nov. 12 at Jeffcoat-Trant Chapel. Reverend Wayne Prickett is officiated. Burial will be held in Garden Hills Cemetery.
Visitation is Wednesday from 9:30 a.m. – 11 a.m. prior to the service at Jeffcoat-Trant Funeral Home.
Mrs. Gunter was born Oct. 4, 1942. She passed away at her home Nov. 9. Mrs. Gunter had been a resident of Opelika for the past 47 years. She worked in the local office of the United Rubber Workers/United Steel Workers of American Unions for 32 years. Linda was a past member of the Opelika BPW and the Lee County Rescue Unit. She was also an avid Auburn football fan.
Mrs. Gunter was preceded in death by her husband, Earl Gene Gunter; and brothers, Richard Baggett, and William Baggett.
Survivors include her daughter, Melinda Gaye Parrish of Montgomery; and son, Daniel Eugene Gunter of Opelika.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests contributions be made to Cerebral Palsy Research Foundation 186 Princeton Hightstown Rd. Bldg 4 – 2nd Floor, Princeton Junction, NJ 08550.

Carol ” Jean” Blue Phillips
Carol ” Jean” Blue Phillips, 69, of Auburn, passed away Nov. 11 at her home following a courageous battle with cancer.
Jean is survived by her husband of 46 wonderful years, Robert (“Bobby”) C. Phillips. She is also survived by her son, John C. “Jay” Phillips and daughter-in-law, Dr. Ellen Phillips, of Dothan and daughter, Joanna Phillips Joyner, and son-in-law, Mark Joyner, of Decatur, Ga. She has six grandchildren that were very special to her: Alex Russell, Tallahassee, Fla.; Brent Phillips, Auburn; Rachel Phillips, Dothan; Jeff Phillips, Dothan; Melanie Joyner, Decatur, Ga.; and Pace Joyner, Decatur, Ga.
She was born in Opelika, to the late Dawson McKennith Blue and Nannie Elvie Gaylor Blue, on February 12, 1945. She was predeceased by her brother Robert Blue and is survived by Charles Wayne “Buddy” Blue, and sister-in-law Diane Blue, Opelika; John McKennith “Bobo” Blue, Mexico Beach, Fla.; Nan Marie Blue Weldon, and brother-in-law Jim Weldon, Mexico Beach, Fla.
Jean graduated from Opelika High School in 1963 and from Auburn University with a B.S. degree in Psychology. She married Robert C. Phillips, Auburn, in 1968. While in the military, they lived in New Jersey and Kansas before returning to Auburn in 1971. Jean worked at Farmer’s National Bank in Opelika until moving to Birmingham in 1977 where she worked at Colonial Bank. After returning to Auburn in 1984, Jean worked at Auburn Bank until she retired.
Jean was a member of the Auburn United Methodist Church, the Emblem Club (Elk’s Club), and volunteered at the Ease House. She loved to travel with her husband as well as with her friends. Her greatest joy was her family. Jean enjoyed tailgating with family and friends and attending Auburn University football games. She never met a stranger and was always kidded that no matter where she traveled, whether in San Francisco or New York City, Jean always found someone she knew. She couldn’t start her day until she had solved the daily newspaper crossword puzzle. An avid reader, she loved being engrossed in a good book. Jean had a special touch with growing beautiful flowers that graced her yard and would go anywhere to find vegetables to fill her freezer. She loved cooking for her family and was always expected to have chocolate chip cookies on hand. Jean was known as a happy, fun-loving person with an infectious personality. She will be dearly missed by the many people she loved and influenced throughout her life.
